- ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪Complete joke and waste of 6 hours of my life. My wife broke down in my car the day before so I bought a years cover online, coverage to start the same day. On the confirmation page after purchasing it told me the only service I could use within the first 24 hours was the call out over 1/4 mile from home. We travelled out to the car to have it looked at, at which point the RAC told me we are not covered in the first 24 hours if you booked online, if you register on the phone you are. I was advised to cancel the policy and repurchase it over the phone. I called to do exactly that and was told they cancelled my policy but my monthly refund won't be refunded for up to 14 days. The next customer service rep said she told the previous person not to cancel it and I had to pay £89 for a call out as the vehicle was already broken down (the drive belt was shredded). I reluctantly paid it even though I was told I would be covered for free if I had signed up over the phone. Waited another hour and a half for a phone call from the mechanic who told me they don't carry belts for my make of car but she could tow me up to 10 miles. Not helpful at all since I could have waited the 24 hours and got them to look at it for free and I was trying to get it sorted so I could get to work the next day. Why ask me the problem with the car on first contact and have no idea that any of the mechanics don't stock belts. Never using RAC again, will be cancelling my wife's policy when it runs out too. When I told them this they said "ok thanks, bye". Customer service is terrible, I'm now out of pocket £89 + £13.50 for the first months premium that they cancelled and another £13.50 for the reinstated premium all of which won't be refunded for up to 14 days. Pitiful and pathetic and none of the staff I talked to cared about the situation.by Kevin WrightJune 17, 2017
